Officers from the Weymouth Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) set up a knife arch at the Marsh on Tuesday, May 14. The event was designed for people to try out the knife arch and discuss the impact of knife crime on their lives. The knife arch is a portable walkthrough metal detector that aids police in searching for concealed knives. This community engagement initiative was part of Dorset Police’s week of action under the national campaign, Operation Sceptre.
Operation Sceptre, which involves 43 police forces across the country, encourages individuals to bring unwanted knives to police stations to help tackle knife crime nationwide. Operation Sceptre aims to raise awareness about the consequences and dangers of carrying a knife, featuring enhanced enforcement, engagement, and education efforts from officers throughout the week. During this period, a knife surrender bin was made available at Weymouth Police Station, allowing people to safely dispose of unwanted knives.

The knife arch used is a RISK P1 Portable Knife Arch.
